The architecture

Maintenance is changing too.

AI can support development, updates, tests and documentation. Human expertise sets the goal and boundaries. A clear architecture connects both.

01 / Shared storage

Your work has a reliable home.

Documents, data, terminology and rules belong to your business. A task has a current, valid state that people and agents can access.

Order 4711Purchase order + delivery confirmationThe source stays visible

Flexible work

The goal can be known while the steps differ by case. An agent can choose suitable intermediate actions within its permitted scope.

Fixed rules

Unambiguous calculations and stable processes are implemented explicitly and tested. A creative model response is not a substitute.

Authoritative state

A task has a valid state. Simultaneous updates need conflict rules and, where required, transactions.

Technical control

Identities, permissions, approvals and logs limit effects. A stop must work during an unexpected agent run.

Permission for each action

How far may your agent go?

Example: handling incoming delivery enquiries.

Level 1

A draft. No external effect yet.

The agent prepares an answer from approved sources. It cannot send a message or change a purchase order.

Real permissions and executing systems enforce these boundaries. A slider or an instruction alone does not.

Freedom of choice

Your way of working stays.
The AI can change.

We choose the model and agent environment around your task. Claude with Cowork capabilities, ChatGPT Work or Codex, Microsoft Copilot, Grok Bot and Mistral Vibe represent different approaches. Local models, for example through LM Studio Bionic or connections described by Unsloth, can also be considered.

Your authoritative data, rules and work status stay outside a single proprietary chat. Documented connections and a tested alternative make a later change practical. Switching the whole agent environment can require different connections and permissions. The new combination is checked against your real requirements.

Choose an alternative in this scripted illustration. The example order and its rules stay in place. No real model is called or assessed.

In a real system: prepare the connector and permissions, test the same tasks and edge cases, then approve the change. Replacing the entire agent environment may require additional work.

The removal test

What stays when a component goes?

Remove one access layer from this simplified setup.

The components are connected. Choose one to explore what its replacement would require.

Test before it matters

Your task sets the standard.

Test a prototype against outcomes described in advance. Include missing sources, incorrect assignments, outdated records and unauthorised actions, rather than only normal cases.

A bounded shadow run can compare the new approach with the current procedure. Assess quality, human checking time and full costs together.

After a model change, interface update or new rule, test the affected workflow again. Documentation and test cases therefore belong to the handover.

Beyond the first build

Software changes.
So does the work.

Business rules, technical updates and bugs are part of running software. Agents can investigate affected code, prepare changes, run tests and update documentation. An expert can coordinate substantially more of this work.

Markus Kirchmair expects individuals to coordinate development work that previously required teams of ten, twenty or thirty people. For suitable tasks, he considers gains up to a hundredfold possible. This is a forecast, rather than a general replacement rate or cost promise.

The comparison separates human steering and review time, elapsed time and total cost. Established software vendors also use AI. The right choice depends on your actual requirements and the complete workflow.
